Hans Block

Hans Block is a German theater director, performance artist and filmmaker. He studied music (drums) at the University of Arts in Berlin and directing at the Institute for Theatre Directing “Ernst Busch“ in Berlin.
In 2014, Block became resident director and member of the Artistic Direction of the Box at Schauspiel Frankfurt. Productions there included “Mysterien – Unberechenbar werden” by Knut Hamsun, “Aufzeichnungen aus dem Kellerloch” by Fjodor Dostojewski and “Flankufuroto” by Bonn Park. In 2014, he was invited to the festival “Radikal Jung“ at the Münchner Volkstheater with his production “Austrian Psycho,” which was awarded the Best Production Prize of the festival.
Block has directed plays at Schauspiel Frankfurt, Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Berliner Volksbühne, Münchner Volkstheater, and Schauspiel Hannover. His radio drama production “Don Don Don Quijote – Attackéee“ was awarded with international prizes as best production of Prix Marulić 2015.
Block is member of the Artistic Direction of Laokoon. He and Moritz Riesewieck have been working as a team since 2007. They work in the area of theater as a team of author-directors. Their work in the realms of theater, sound and radio plays, film, and installation emerges in different constellations. Since 2015, all of their works have been written collectively under the label Laokoon. Their focus is on the continuous development of the tools of the theater to allow for unusual perspectives on our reality.
