Jen Rainin
Jen Rainin is a filmmaker, philanthropist, and activist. She is recognized for her efforts in promoting LGBTQ+ representation and social justice through her work in film and as the CEO of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation.
Jen Rainin co-founded Frankly Speaking Films in 2020 alongside Rivkah Beth Medow. Their production company focuses on creating media that centers strong LGBTQ+ women and non-binary individuals, with the aim of increasing visibility and driving positive change in society’s perception of these communities. Her directorial debut, “Ahead of the Curve” (2020), is a testament to her commitment to telling meaningful stories and building community through film.
Beyond her work in the film industry, Jen Rainin has made a significant impact as the CEO of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation since its establishment in 2008. Under her leadership, the foundation has adopted a targeted approach to grantmaking, supporting major initiatives in the Arts, Education, and Health program areas. Through the SFFILM Rainin Filmmaking Grants, Jen has fostered support for independent narrative feature films, including those that address social justice issues. Additionally, she has been instrumental in promoting early childhood education in Oakland and supporting research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
Jen Rainin’s impact on the film industry extends beyond her directorial endeavors. As an executive producer, she has been involved in documentary projects like “Stage Left” (2011) and “Two Spirits” (2009), which explore the history of theater in the Bay Area and gender identity in Native American cultures, respectively.
